She buys a dress she can’t afford for one of X’s office parties, a dress that’s surprisingly tighter than it should have been (eye roll). To make matters worse, when one of Leandro’s managers tells her that she’s “Leandro’s dirty little secret,” she finds out that she wasn’t even invited to the party. Adj. Apparently, when he ditches one of his lovers, he gives flowers instead of the ubiquitous diamond bracelet. So he’s not just an ass hat billionaire, he’s a cheap hat billionaire. On the plus side, he orders them himself, not some evil but well-intentioned set of PAs that he later has an affair with and gets pregnant. Wait, that’s another Italian bazillionaire. Update #2 OMG, he is so Machiavellian. Terrible. Terrible. Rough. Epic that way. Some Harley-land readers will love all that FEAR. We’re on to good stuff, but I’m going into spoiler lock. (see spoiler)[ H has a son from his first marriage who is not biologically his. Guess what? He doesn’t trust women. He plays the “You are the housewife” card. Her brother comes to stay when he is out of town and X accuses her of bringing her lover. Besides, the jewelry is gone. She does not accept the news that she is pregnant. Forced DNA testing. She utters an unforgivable curse, her spine goes numb, and she runs away. Reversible amnesia. After the call from the hospital, he lies to her because he loves the baby. He never mentions the fact that she had an offer from NASA, that he only ever thought of her as a lover, forced her to take a DNA test even though she was a virgin when they got together, not only did he accuse her of forcing someone else. she has a child but to kidnap him, and the coup, try to buy the child from her and get sole custody. He used her amnesia as a way to get the baby by very deliberately speeding up the wedding. We miss the evil OU even though there is a mysterious girl in the gossip room. Somewhere in the labyrinth of his mind, he realizes that he was just a little too quick in his accusations, threats, and sheer nastiness. Could this be the conscience he is growing? (hide spoiler)] Epic GROVEL is better. Spoiler #2 (view spoiler)[Like a bolt of lightning, literally, little h regains his memory AT THE ALTAR OF SACRIFICE and all hell breaks loose. This girl is on fire! She throws him some home truths and leaves. He becomes pale and interesting, which in Harley-land is the equivalent of whimsy and a declaration of love, even if he’s too damaged to admit it. We’ve got a rule breaker on our hands, folks! H finally fires her after a few months and she goes down like a bad poker player? No! She, once again, releases… No, correct, she releases the equivalent of a neutron bomb: the shell is still standing, but there’s a bit of the original butt cap left. It’s obvious he’s never read the Harley-land rule book regarding heroine behavior. In a real life context, it’s a game changer. She reacts like a red-blooded woman with self-respect and backbone. After she’s done with the warrior, he’s not so much guilty as sad. As much as I laugh, despise, and belittle the action in some books, their actions are true. It is not correct in terms of how women should behave, but how they behave. (hide spoiler)] Okay. The spoilers stop there. If you have read my reviews, I will determine a 1 star review if H is a completely unrepentant butt hat and h is worthy of the title of a tiny door brush. One of the better new HPs I’ve read in a long time. It’s a basic, well-known HP plot that I love – Housewife who thinks she’s a boyfriend while the hero brutally sets her up. There were many positives. *Hero acted like a responsible adult and went to X to tell him she was pregnant even though he was a giant ass. *Amnesia!!! *Heroine unforgiving on insta after “I’ll just marry her while she has amnesia and she doesn’t know I’m a jerk.” plot revealed *Hero was a piece of shit, One of the better new HPs I’ve read in a long time. It’s a basic, well-known HP plot that I love – Housewife who thinks she’s a boyfriend while the hero brutally sets her up. We love to hate our gritty heroes. Plus he really showed a lot of growth at the end and had to work on forgiveness. *Amnesia!!! (just in case I forgot to mention it) Comment on the controversy re: the House Dad epilogue (see spoiler)[ Got it. HP is the very definition of fantasy and sometimes a little thing can fulfill that fantasy in a hurry. We have very specific things we like (amnesia!!) and very specific things we don’t like (insert long list) and it’s different for all of us. YMMV At HPLania, we tend to love our uber-alpha males, and stay-at-home dads don’t tick that box for many readers. Part of the HP fantasy is that you get this super rich friend who showers you with wealth and takes away all your worries, all while giving you candy-like satisfaction. I’m not trying to get into an argument about the merits of being a stay at home dad because I don’t have kids and it’s not something I have experience with. However you feel on the subject, I just wanted to put in my two cents and say that I don’t think this is a case of “the guy decides to stay home and let his wife support him”. This guy was a pet, he didn’t need the heroine’s money. In fact, she wasn’t even making money at this point, she was studying – although I think she was eventually offered a position. The hero still owned his business, he just wasn’t active in the day-to-day operations. He even bought a vineyard in California when he moved there so she could pursue her NASA dream. IMHO the heroine chasing her dream was a great gesture. This guy was a total jerk, “sorry” wasn’t going to cut it with me. In the long run, however, I feel like him
