In a summer exchange program in rural Oregon, sixteen-year-old Pakistani student Hira must trade Kashmiri tea for volleyball practice and try to understand why everyone around her seems to dislike Obama. A skeptical intellectual explorer, Hira finds herself standing between worlds. The experience is memorable for both good and bad reasons; first kiss, new friends, racism, Islam, homesickness. On the way, Hira begins to feel unwell until she coughs up blood, and is diagnosed with tuberculosis, pushing her into solitary confinement and making her new home away from home.

Dur e Aziz Amna grew up in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and now lives in Michigan, USA. His work has appeared in the New York Times, Financial Times, and Longreads, among others. He won the Financial Times / Bodley Title Essay Prize 2019, in e-book publishing by Penguin, and was longlisted for the Sunday Times Audible Short Story Prize 2020. He graduated from Yale College and the Writers Program at the University by Helen Zell. Michigan. His first novel, AMERICAN FEVER, is out from Scepter and Arcade Books (August 2022).
