Week Cash Flow Forecast Cashflow
To complete a cash flow forecast, you must first prepare the following information about your business:
In the above example, we visualized a cash flow forecast for a hypothetical small and medium-sized business. For week 1, the business is just getting started, so cash from e-commerce will be low (£2,000), while cash for expenses such as utilities and travel will be relatively high (£6,850). The result is 1 minus the expected closing balance for the week of £4,850.
By week 13, our hypothetical business should be solid - digital marketing efforts and word of mouth should have a positive impact on e-commerce sales, reaching £15,000. At the same time, costs should remain relatively stable. The result is a positive cash flow forecast of £5,650 for week 13.
Remember that a cash flow forecast is just that, a forecast. This is an educated guess based on deep knowledge of your business and industry. Forecasting can be done on different time horizons, such as 30 days or 6 months, but the further out you go, the less accurate your forecast will be.

Step 2: On the left side, list all categories of inputs and outputs for your business For example, online sales, in-store sales, employee salaries and office rent.
Step 3: Enter your recurring ins and outs next to the appropriate category and under each month. These are things you know, such as your monthly rent.
Step 4: Fill in your expected income and expenses each month. This includes your projected sales and any additional costs you think may be incurred. For example, an increase in shipping costs due to an increase in demand or an increase in office rent at the end of the year.
Tip: To refine your forecast numbers, review your historical sales to identify any patterns, and then consider how current and future trends or events could increase or decrease these numbers.
How To Build A Cash Flow Forecast

If you're pressed for time, short-term forecasts will reduce the amount of data you need to collect and enter.
Joanne, capital markets policy manager at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), said: "In urgent or fast-moving situations, focusing on a 13-week period can be useful." It helps instill discipline and focus and minimizes future possibilities. This means forecasting is faster, as well as giving you an immediate understanding of your cash flow risk so you can take immediate action if necessary.
QuickBooks found that more than half (54%) of UK small business owners use manual calculations in programs such as Excel to track their business payments. Not only is this time consuming, it can also cause errors. "Predicting accuracy in finite time is about minimizing your number of guesses," Ford says. This is where technology can help, taking the legwork out of manual calculations for you.

Technology can do some of that leg work. Ford uses Xero, which he says provides good historical data about his company's costs, making forecasting easy and accurate. Similar tools and accounting software allow you to create budgets, track income and expenses, and compare budgets to expenses.
