Baseball Card Templates - I recently received an email from blog reader Jeff who asked the best question, "How do you create a custom card design" using a vintage Topps baseball card design? He's thinking about getting into this rocket, so I thought I'd share a few secrets. The truth is, it's not a secret and I'm not an actor in real life, I only play once on this blog.
I use a special drawing program - MicroSoft Picture It!, which is almost 10 years old and probably only a few months away from being obsolete and useless. At some point in the near future, my regular credit card may need a short break while I try to learn new software. Using my software, this is how a basic baseball card comes to life:
Baseball Card Templates
Step 1: Find a baseball card from the year you want to make a custom card for. Jeff's email is specifically about the 1981 Topps design, so that's what I'll be using in my example here.
Player Jumbo Cards
Step 2: I open the browser in my program and start the cleaning process. I use a tool called a "cutter" which removes all the extra material and just leaves me with a blank pattern. Before I delete any text, I search for duplicate text and copy the existing text. That way, after I clear the original card, the new text stays behind, roughly the same font, size, and color as the original text.
Step 3: Once my design is clean, it's easy to insert a picture of a current Phillies player and update the text to match.
